The 2026/27 football season is the most fragmented it has ever been for UK viewers. Five major leagues, four broadcasters, and a bill that runs past £700 a year if you want to watch all of it legitimately.
This guide lays out exactly when each league starts, who shows what, and what the whole thing actually costs.
Season Start Dates
The World Cup pushed everything later this year, and the leagues staggered their returns:

The Premier League started a week later than usual to allow 33 days' recovery after the expanded 48-team World Cup final on 19 July.
Who Shows What in 2026/27
Premier League
- √Sky Sports — 215 matches. The overwhelming majority. Over 140 weekend games, Friday and Monday evenings, three full midweek rounds, and for the first time all 10 final-day matches.
- √TNT Sports — 52 matches. Exclusive Saturday 12:30 kick-offs plus two midweek rounds.
This is TNT's last season with Premier League rights. Paramount outbid them for the next cycle, so from 2027/28 the split changes again — worth knowing before you sign an 18-month contract with anyone.
Champions League
- √TNT Sports — the majority of matches
- √Amazon Prime Video — 17 matches, with first pick of Tuesday evenings
The final is at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid on 5 June 2027.
European Leagues
La Liga and Bundesliga coverage sits largely with Premier Sports in the UK. Serie A rights have moved around in recent seasons — check before committing if Italian football is your priority.

Across a ten-month season that is roughly £890–£1,040. Analysis published this summer put the figure for watching every televised Premier League game alone at around £730 a year.
And that is before broadband, before a Sky box, and usually locked into an 18 or 24 month contract with a mid-term price rise built in.
The 3pm Blackout
One thing no UK subscription solves: matches kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday are not broadcast live in the UK at all. It is a long-standing rule intended to protect attendance at lower-league grounds.
Because it is a UK broadcasting rule, overseas broadcasters showing the same fixtures are not bound by it. That is why international feeds carry games unavailable on British television.

Getting Match Day Right
Live sport is the hardest test for any streaming service, and most complaints we handle come down to setup rather than the service itself:
Use a wired connection. A £10 ethernet adapter for a Firestick eliminates the large majority of buffering reports we receive. This matters more than anything else on this list.
Restart your app before kick-off. It reconnects you to the least loaded server and clears any stale buffer.
Know your backup streams. Most major channels carry alternates. Find them before the match, not during it.
Don't force 4K on a marginal connection. A stable 1080p feed beats a stuttering 4K one every time.
Give yourself time. If you are ordering on a match day, don't order at 14:55 for a 15:00 kick-off. Activation is usually 5 minutes to an hour, but weekends are our busiest period.
Test It Before You Commit
The only meaningful test of an IPTV service is a live match at peak time. A quiet Tuesday afternoon proves nothing — servers are under no load.
